Security
What self-custody actually means
Custody refers to who controls the private keys behind a wallet address. A custodial wallet, like the one built into most exchanges, means the exchange holds those keys for you.
A non-custodial wallet like QIE Wallet works differently. Your keys are generated on your own device and never leave it. QIE has no copy of them and no ability to freeze or approve your transactions.
The trade-off is responsibility. If you lose your recovery phrase and your device at the same time, there is no support line that can recover your funds. QIE Wallet walks you through backing up that phrase during setup, before any assets are added.
